When they are born, twins can either be 'identical' or 'fraternal'. easyDNA offers DNA testing for twins to help confirm if you are an identical twin or a fraternal twin. The DNA testing for twins is based on the fact that identical twins share the same DNA profile. Therefore, through our Twins DNA test we are able to confirm whether, as a twin, you have the same DNA profile or not as your other sibling.
DNA Testing for twins may be required for a number of purposes - curiosity, medical or legal. Most often the parents of twins and twins themselves may wish to know whether they are identical or non-identical simply to satisfy their own curiosity . However, the test can also be performed for medical purposes, for example to assess whether one twin can donate an organ to the other twin requiring a transplant.
How Does A Twins DNA Test Work?
The sample collection is a simple and painless procedure, using a mouth swab to collect a sample of saliva and cheek cells from each of the twin's mouth. Please refer to our DNA Sample Collection Procedure page for visual instructions on how to collect the samples.
