Each female has two X Chromosomes, one inherited from the mother and the other inherited from the father.

The X-Chromosome Test is most commonly used to determine if sisters with different mothers share the same father.

• In cases where two females with different mothers want to establish if they have the same biological father: if their X chromosome patterns match, it means that they do share the same father.

• In cases where two females share the same mother and want to establish if they have the same biological father, in cases where the latter is not available for testing, an X-Chromosome test can be carried out but only if the mothers sample is available for testing. In this way we can see the X pattern that was inherited or passed on from the mother and then compare the second X pattern that would have been passed on from the father.
