Avuncular DNA testing assesses whether an individual is the Aunt or Uncle of another person. This Aunt-Uncle DNA test is often used when the alleged parent of the person is deceased and/or unwilling to participate in testing and a brother or sister of the alleged parent is still alive and available for testing. The sample of the Mother is recommended to strengthen the results of the test but is not necessary.
The Aunt-Uncle DNA test will therefore compare their DNA to that of the alleged niece or nephew. The result will confirm the probability they are related. We normally require more than 80%> probability of relatedness to confirm a relationship and <20% to indicate there is no relationship. However, the results of such tests can never be fully predicted in advance especially if the sample of the mother is not included.
In the case where an uncle is available for testing, and the child is male, then we recommend you consider performing a Y-Chromosome DNA test to determine relationship through the male lineage.
Avuncular DNA testing is priced from £269 for one aunt or uncle and one child. Results are available in five to seven working days from the receipt of samples at the laboratory. An express testing option is also available for faster results.
Contact easyDNA to discuss your case in more detail and our fully trained staff will be able to advise you if you require an Aunt-Uncle DNA test or another type of relationship DNA test.
